Memphis health brief: Flu trend improves, Saturday clinic hours, and Regional One updates

Memphis, TN – March 4, 2026 – Shelby County reports flu-like illness is moderate and declining this week as clinics and hospitals share updates.

Flu activity in Shelby County: moderate and trending down

The Shelby County Health Department’s influenza surveillance dashboard reported that influenza-like illness (ILI) activity is decreasing and currently described as moderate. In its most recent update, the department said 4.5% of emergency department visits were for ILI, compared with 14.9% during the same time last year. The page also noted that adults ages 18 to 44 made up the largest share of ILI-related emergency visits in the latest snapshot, followed by children ages 0 to 4.

Health officials update the dashboard frequently during higher-activity periods, and the department encourages residents to follow local public health guidance during respiratory virus season.

Weekend access: Saturday immunizations and WIC hours at 814 Jefferson

The Shelby County Health Department also listed limited Saturday service hours at its 814 Jefferson Avenue location on February 28, with a 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. window. The event listing said services during the Saturday hours include immunizations and WIC, with costs varying by service provided.

The health department said these limited Saturday hours are offered on selected second and fourth Saturdays each month, providing an additional option for families who may have difficulty reaching clinics during weekday business hours.

Hospital updates: Regional One shares maternal support model; police presence reported

Regional One Health highlighted its Maternal One Model (MOM) Program, which the hospital says is designed to connect eligible expectant mothers to prenatal care along with practical supports that can affect health outcomes, including help navigating transportation, healthy food access, baby supplies, and WIC-related resources. The hospital said the program started in August 2024 and supported more than 150 patients in its first year, with some families receiving services for up to a year.

Separately, Action News 5 reported a heavy law enforcement presence at Regional One Hospital on the evening of February 26, along with police and state troopers at a second scene in Parkway Village near South Perkins Road and Cottonwood Road. The station reported that officials had not confirmed whether the two scenes were connected at the time of publication.
