Measles exposures listed in El Paso as officials track cases in city and at Fort Bliss facility

El Paso, TX – March 4, 2026 – Measles exposure sites were posted this week as cases were confirmed in the city and at a Fort Bliss detention camp.

El Paso public health officials have posted a list of potential measles exposure sites after confirming new cases inside the city, alongside additional cases reported at a federal facility at Fort Bliss.

Measles: exposure locations and public health notice

In a Feb. 26 notice, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health reported four confirmed measles cases within the city and said it was aware of 13 additional cases reported through federal authorities at the East Montana facility. The department said it began contact tracing and coordination with community partners.

The city’s notice listed several places where the public may have been exposed between Feb. 20 and Feb. 22, including the Apple Store at Cielo Vista Mall, Del Sol Medical Center, the Outlet Shoppes area, a Target in the Bassett area, and multiple restaurants. Officials said anyone who visited the listed locations at the specified times and later develops fever and rash should contact a health care provider for evaluation and testing.

The health department also highlighted walk-in immunization services on weekdays at community clinics in the Lower Valley, Henderson, Northeast and Westside areas, and said a measles hotline had been activated.

Fort Bliss detention camp limits visitors amid outbreak

Reporting on March 3, the Associated Press and The Texas Tribune said Camp East Montana at Fort Bliss restricted visitor access as measles cases were reported at the facility. U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar said there were 14 active measles cases and that 112 people were being isolated, with the closure expected to last until about March 19 or March 20. The Tribune also reported Escobar said some detainees with measles were being quarantined at local hospitals.

City officials have said the East Montana facility is outside city jurisdiction, and the Feb. 26 city notice directed questions about operations at the facility to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Grants aim to strengthen prevention and community health work

Separately, Paso del Norte Health Foundation announced more than $557,000 in grants to support health-related work across the Borderplex, according to a Feb. 26 report by KVIA. The grants were organized around health leadership, disease prevention and management, and healthy living.

KVIA’s report highlighted awards to organizations including United Way of El Paso County, BorderRAC, Action for Healthy Kids, UTHealth Houston and Texas A&M University’s Colonias Program, with several projects tied to prevention and community education.
