Boulder City Hospital plans service cutbacks as mobile and school-based options expand access

Las Vegas, NV – March 4, 2026 – Boulder City Hospital plans service cutbacks, a mobile clinic expands testing access, and CCSD approves no-cost health services.

Boulder City Hospital will reduce some inpatient and specialty services later this spring as it changes its federal designation, while several new and expanding programs around the Las Vegas valley aim to improve access to basic and preventive care.

Hospital update: Boulder City Hospital to shift to rural emergency designation

Boulder City Hospital is planning layoffs and service changes as it transitions from a critical access hospital to a Rural Emergency Hospital designation effective May 1, according to the hospital’s CEO in a FOX5 report.

Under the new designation, patient stays generally cannot exceed 24 hours, which the report said will end some services, including certain surgical and psychiatric services. The hospital’s long-term care unit is expected to continue operating, and the report noted the skilled nursing rehabilitation program will be moved into that unit.

FOX5 also reported that the Rural Emergency Hospital designation comes with financial incentives, including higher Medicare outpatient payments and a separate monthly facility payment.

Care access: The Center’s mobile clinic expands testing and linkage to services

A mobile medical clinic operated by The Center has been providing services across Nevada since June, with regular stops in Las Vegas and visits to other communities including Reno, Pahrump, Mesquite, Indian Springs, and Moapa, FOX5 reported.

According to the report, the unit provides rapid HIV and hepatitis C testing, STI testing panels, and linkage to recovery services. The story also noted the clinic offers gender-affirming care and hormone replacement therapy services, and distributes naloxone.

Schools: CCSD approves agreement for no-cost health services to families

The Clark County School District Board of School Trustees approved a memorandum of agreement with Rejuven Health to provide health services to CCSD students and their families at no cost to the district or students, according to a district recap of its Feb. 26 meeting.

The recap said services include immunizations, wellness exams, sports physicals, and mental health services, among other offerings.

Outbreak history: Trial begins in first hepatitis case tied to 2008 Southern Nevada outbreak

A trial linked to the 2008 Southern Nevada hepatitis C outbreak has begun in Las Vegas, Courthouse News Service reported. The article described the outbreak as connected to unsafe injection practices at endoscopy centers and said about 50,000 patients were notified in 2008 to seek testing for bloodborne infections.
