Great Hill Dental – Boston is a dental practice that is part of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN), a consortium of dental practices and organizations committed to advancing knowledge of dental practice and improving patient care. The practice is supported by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), a part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), which provides funding for the network’s investigative partnerships between academic clinical scientists and practicing clinicians to address questions of everyday relevance to dental practitioners.

Great Hill Dental – Boston is dedicated to conducting clinical research experiences and skills development for dental students and residents, fostering scientific collaborations between dental students/residents and clinical faculty, and stimulating additional clinical research pursuits among clinically-oriented faculty members and dental students. This initiative aligns with the main goals of dental practice-based research, which are to streamline the implementation of oral health research studies into dental practices on topics of importance to patient care, and to facilitate the translation of research findings into clinical practice.

The National Dental PBRN supports two pathways to propose studies that utilize the network’s infrastructure: large observational studies and clinical trials, and small developmental/exploratory, feasibility (pilot), and/or survey studies. The network fosters investigative partnerships between academic clinical scientists and practicing clinicians to address questions of everyday relevance to dental practitioners.

Great Hill Dental – Boston is part of a larger movement to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of dental care through practical science and research.
