Planned Parenthood resumes New Orleans care; opening slots filled

Planned Parenthood Great Plains began seeing patients in New Orleans on Oct. 14, 2026. Axios reported that opening-day appointments were fully booked the day before.

Planned Parenthood Great Plains began serving patients at its New Orleans location on Oct. 14, 2026, restoring an in-person Planned Parenthood health center in Louisiana after the prior affiliate closed its two state centers in 2025. The closed centers were in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Verite News reported on Oct. 14 that available services included reproductive and sexual health care, routine wellness visits and vaccinations. Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast identified Sept. 30, 2025, as its final day of operations in Louisiana; some services remained available through Planned Parenthood Direct.

Before the opening, Planned Parenthood Great Plains and Telemundo New Orleans reported that patients could schedule appointments for care beginning Oct. 14. Axios reported on Oct. 13, however, that opening-day appointments were already fully booked. Advance scheduling for the new center did not mean opening-day slots remained available.

Planned Parenthood Great Plains announced in June that it planned to resume in-person care in New Orleans and expand telehealth access statewide. Axios also reported that the organization would not provide abortion services to Louisiana patients, in person or through telehealth.
