Dallas, TX – March 9, 2026 – Medical City Children’s Hospital has opened a new pediatric cardiac ICU, adding 25 beds and expanding heart care capacity.

Medical City Children’s Hospital has opened a new pediatric cardiac intensive care unit in Dallas, marking a significant expansion of specialized heart care for children across North Texas.

New Pediatric Cardiac ICU Now Open

The hospital’s Congenital Heart Center added a 33,000-square-foot cardiac ICU as part of a $48 million project. The new unit includes 25 dedicated beds for children recovering from congenital heart surgery and catheter-based procedures.

Hospital officials said the expansion is designed to keep diagnosis, intervention, surgery and recovery closely connected within one coordinated program. The upgraded space also includes areas intended to support families and staff, such as a patient playroom and a staff respite room.

For Dallas-area families, the added beds increase local capacity for highly specialized pediatric cardiac care, reducing the need for transfers outside the region for certain complex cases.
