Orlando health updates: measles rise statewide, new school-based clinic planned, and public-sector health plans in motion
Orlando, FL – March 3, 2026 – Measles totals rose statewide, AdventHealth backed a new school wellness clinic, and city/VA projects advanced.
Several developments affecting Orlando-area patients and families unfolded over the past few days, spanning outbreak monitoring, new care sites, and major public-sector health planning.
Measles: Florida reports a sharp weekly increase
State surveillance data cited in Orlando-based reporting shows Florida logged 114 measles cases as of Feb. 21, up from 92 one week earlier. The same report noted most cases were concentrated in Collier County, where an outbreak was first reported at Ave Maria University in late January.
For Central Florida, the practical impact is heightened attention to exposure protocols in health care settings and other crowded public places as statewide case counts climb.
HIV drug assistance: emergency rule challenged in court
A statewide medication-access and insurance-assistance dispute may affect some Floridians who rely on the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation said it filed an amended legal motion on Feb. 26 seeking to block a Florida Department of Health emergency rule affecting the program, including changes tied to eligibility and health insurance premium assistance. The organization said the rule would take effect March 1 and is set to run for 90 days.
AdventHealth-backed school wellness clinic planned at Cristo Rey Orlando
AdventHealth reported that on Feb. 24, students, families and community partners broke ground on a new on-campus wellness center at Cristo Rey Orlando High School. The Burke Pavilion and AdventHealth Clinic, operated by TrueHealth, is planned to provide medical care, dental services and mental health support for families in a familiar setting.
Orlando VA announces infrastructure upgrades
The Orlando VA Healthcare System announced Feb. 27 that it will begin infrastructure upgrades intended to support safe and effective patient care. In its release, the VA listed a first-quarter project to replace galvanized domestic water lines at the Lake Baldwin campus for Environmental Protection Agency compliance.
City of Orlando health plan contracting moves forward
On the health insurance side, the City of Orlando posted a March 2 advisory committee meeting tied to RFP26-0046 for health plan administrative services. The notice indicates continued work on the administrative side of the city’s employee health benefits.
