Fayus expands OLA-OLA pounded yam recall over undeclared milk

Fayus expanded its voluntary recall to four OLA-OLA pounded yam package sizes distributed in six U.S. states, Canada and Australia.

Fayus Inc., doing business as Yusol International Foods, has expanded its voluntary recall of OLA-OLA POUNDED YAM because some packages may contain sodium caseinate, a milk derivative, that was not declared on the label. The Food and Drug Administration posted Fayus’s July 17, 2026, company announcement as a public service.

The expanded recall covers 2-, 4-, 5- and 10-pound packages with expiration dates from November 2028 through May 2029. The affected products are in clear plastic bags without a milk declaration. Packages that correctly declare the milk allergen are not included.

People with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity should not consume qualifying packages. Consumers should check the package size, expiration date and allergen declaration, then follow the recall instructions. Distribution outlets may exchange affected product for correctly labeled product or a relabeled or reconditioned package.

The FDA notice says the product may contain undeclared milk in the form of sodium caseinate. The warning is based on the possibility that a package meets the listed size, date and labeling criteria; it does not say that every recalled package contains the ingredient.

Distribution covered six U.S. states

Distribution was through African and Caribbean market outlets in Canada, Australia and six U.S. states: California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Texas. The distribution period ran from December 2025 through May 2026.

The FDA posting identifies Fayus as a Sacramento, California, company doing business as Yusol International Foods. The FDA page labels the notice a “company announcement” and says the agency posts such announcements as a public service. The page does not present the recall as an independent FDA enforcement action.

The company’s initial recall announcement was dated July 6, 2026, and FDA published it July 7. That initial announcement covered products with expiration dates from November 2028 through May 2029 that lacked a dairy allergen declaration. Fayus announced the expansion on July 17 and specified the four package sizes now covered.

The FDA-posted announcement attributes the expansion to Fayus’s internal investigation. The company said some packages were produced and packaged during a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging processes. That explanation is Fayus’s account of how the labeling problem occurred.

Canadian warning and removal effort

In Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency listed corresponding packages in 0.907-kilogram, 1.815-kilogram, 2.267-kilogram and 4.535-kilogram sizes when milk is not declared on the label. CFIA issued its original warning June 26, 2026, and updated it July 16 with additional product information and sizes.

CFIA said the Canadian recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. It classified the warning as a Class 1 food recall, said it was verifying removal from the marketplace and reported that its food-safety investigation was ongoing. The agency said the investigation could lead to recalls of other products.

The FDA notice reported no illnesses or injuries connected with the issue. Separately, CFIA reported no reactions associated with the Canadian products. Those statements apply to the respective notices and do not establish that no reaction occurred in every location where the product was distributed.

Canadian consumers and businesses should not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute recalled product. CFIA advises that it be discarded or returned. The FDA notice does not provide a total number of affected units, so consumers must rely on the package size, expiration date, clear packaging and allergen-label information to identify qualifying products.
