Orlando-area health updates: VA infrastructure work, city health plan meeting, fire-weather warning, and measles trend
Orlando, FL – March 2, 2026 – Orlando VA plans upgrades; City Hall reviews health-plan admin services; red-flag fire weather and measles rise statewide.
Orlando VA begins planning for infrastructure upgrades
The Orlando VA Healthcare System said Feb. 27 it will begin infrastructure upgrades intended to support safe and effective patient care. The VA said the work is funded through the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance program, part of a nationwide effort to modernize and repair facilities in fiscal year 2026.
Locally, the VA listed a first-quarter project to replace galvanized domestic water lines at its Lake Baldwin campus for EPA compliance.
City employee health plan: advisory committee meeting held
The City of Orlando posted notice of a Feb. 27 in-person advisory committee meeting tied to RFP26-0046, which covers health plan administrative services. The meeting notice lists City Hall’s Veterans Conference Room as the location.
For residents who work for the city or have coverage through a city plan, the procurement process can shape how benefits are administered, including vendor selection and member services.
Fire-weather alert covers Orange and Osceola counties
Central Florida faced elevated wildfire risk Feb. 26, when the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for several east-central Florida counties, including Orange and Osceola. FOX 35 Orlando reported the warning was driven by low humidity and gusty winds, conditions that can allow fires to start and spread quickly.
Local officials urged residents to avoid outdoor burning during the warning period and to report fires promptly.
Measles remains an outbreak watch item statewide
Florida’s measles activity continues to draw attention statewide. A Feb. 27 report from CBS Miami, citing Florida Department of Health surveillance data, said Florida’s 2026 measles total rose from 92 cases on Feb. 14 to 114 cases on Feb. 21. The report also noted that counties reporting cases this year include several large metro areas.
Public health agencies typically recommend following official guidance on isolation, exposures, and vaccination during outbreaks, especially in schools and congregate settings.
