Mesa health update: Banner Health Center expansion, AHCCCS system change, and measles tracking

Mesa, AZ – March 2, 2026 – Banner Health Center expansion adds exam rooms; AHCCCS plans a claims-data upgrade; CDC reports measles cases rising.

Mesa-area residents saw a pair of healthcare access and health-insurance updates in late February, alongside new national measles totals that include Arizona.

Banner Health Center in Mesa completes major expansion

A Banner Health Center in Mesa has finished a build-out intended to increase appointment capacity for East Valley patients, according to a report from inBusiness Phoenix. The project added more than 19,000 square feet, bringing the site to more than 40,000 square feet.

The expansion includes 31 additional exam rooms, new medical suites, and support space. The report also notes increased in-office behavioral health services and a larger on-site lab footprint for Sonora Quest Laboratories, including a dedicated waiting area and additional blood-draw stations. Banner reported that three new providers have joined the care team, with more planned this year.

Health insurance operations: AHCCCS schedules a system upgrade

Arizona’s Medicaid agency, AHCCCS, posted an updated timeline for its Medicaid Enterprise System (MES) modernization program on February 25. The agency says the work is aimed at upgrading older technology and streamlining routine processes.

One near-term milestone: AHCCCS plans to implement a new Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) translator on March 1, 2026. AHCCCS describes the change as a behind-the-scenes upgrade intended to support faster and more efficient data exchange with trading partners such as health plans and clearinghouses.

Outbreak watch: CDC updates measles case totals; Maricopa dashboards continue

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its national measles page on February 27, reporting 1,136 confirmed U.S. cases in 2026 as of February 26. The CDC lists Arizona among the jurisdictions reporting cases this year and notes that most cases are outbreak-associated.

Closer to home, Maricopa County Public Health continues weekly respiratory-virus dashboards during the 2025–2026 season, tracking COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. The county notes that dashboard data are preliminary and are updated weekly on Fridays.
