Tampa-area providers and public health officials are navigating a mixed slate of updates this week, from measles tracking in Florida to new technology and insurance-network clarity.

Outbreak watch: Florida measles totals rise; Hillsborough listed among affected counties

Florida has the third-most measles cases in the U.S. so far in 2026, according to a recent roundup that cites the Florida Department of Health’s Reportable Diseases Frequency Report and the Johns Hopkins measles dashboard. The report said Florida diagnoses increased from 92 on Feb. 14 to 114 on Feb. 21. Hillsborough County was among the counties with reported cases, though the largest share cited in the report was in Collier County.

Nationally, the CDC’s most recent update posted Feb. 20 reported 982 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2026 as of Feb. 19. Public health agencies continue to emphasize that case totals can change as investigations and reporting are updated.

Hospitals: Tampa General highlighted for rapid AI rollout tied to access and operations

An American Hospital Association innovation brief spotlighted Tampa General Hospital for its pace of artificial intelligence adoption, noting the system has implemented 61 AI applications. The brief described an approach built around structured governance, vendor partnerships and quickly scaling tools that are working in real-world workflows.

One example cited was a conversational AI agent used in Tampa General’s contact center for tasks such as answering common questions, appointment management and call routing. The AHA brief reported that within two weeks of the tool’s launch, the hospital saw a 21% increase in appointments scheduled and a 56% drop in daily call abandonment, with average wait time falling from 6.2 to 2.4 minutes.

Health insurance: Florida Blue and Cleveland Clinic Florida announce new agreement

After weeks of contract uncertainty, Cleveland Clinic and Florida Blue announced Feb. 27 that they reached a new agreement that keeps Cleveland Clinic providers in-network for Florida Blue members. Cleveland Clinic said the deal maintains access for members in employer-sponsored plans, Marketplace coverage and Medicare Advantage. A prior Feb. 26 report noted Florida Blue had told members coverage was guaranteed through May while negotiations continued.
