Measles investigations expand across Denver’s north metro; Denver Health reiterates Medicaid privacy guidance

Denver, CO – March 3, 2026 – Measles exposure sites expanded across the north metro as officials confirm new cases; Denver Health posts privacy notes.

Denver-area public health and healthcare leaders issued new updates over the past several days, with measles investigations expanding across the north metro and local institutions reiterating how patient information is handled.

Outbreak watch: Measles exposure locations expand in the north metro

Colorado public health officials announced on March 2 that a measles case was confirmed in an Adams County resident and described it as the second case connected to Broomfield High School. The agency said neither of the students involved had received the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and that school and public health officials would directly contact students and staff who may need to take additional health precautions.

The March 2 notice listed several public exposure locations in Broomfield and Westminster tied to late-February dates, including Broomfield High School, a Chick-fil-A and a Chipotle.

In a separate Feb. 27 update, CDPHE and local partners confirmed a measles case in a Broomfield County resident and said the child had no known connection to recent Colorado exposure reports and had not traveled outside the state. The release said the lack of a clear source of infection suggests unidentified measles cases may be occurring in or traveling through the area.

That Feb. 27 advisory also identified exposure locations across Broomfield, Westminster, Lafayette and Louisville, including a retail grocery store, a pet store, a restaurant, an urgent care clinic and the UCHealth Broomfield Hospital Emergency Department. In both advisories, officials urged people who were at listed locations to monitor for symptoms for 21 days after exposure and to call ahead before visiting a clinic, urgent care or emergency department if symptoms develop.

Hospital & insurance: Denver Health posts guidance on Medicaid data sharing

Denver Health has a standing information page for patients addressing federal changes affecting Medicaid data sharing between agencies. The hospital notes that, as of Jan. 6, 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) can share limited Medicaid information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Denver Health emphasized it has not changed its own practices for protecting health information, and it outlined practical points for patients, including that disenrolling from Medicaid does not erase information CMS already has, and that CMS does not have information about past or upcoming appointment times or locations.

Privacy and public records: Polis seeks to block ICE subpoena compliance

In a related Colorado policy dispute with Denver court implications, Gov. Jared Polis is asking a Denver judge to permanently prohibit the release of sensitive state records sought by ICE, according to Axios Denver. Polis previously directed state officials to comply with the subpoena in 2025, but Axios reported he is now seeking a court ruling that would prevent disclosure and close the matter through the courts.
