Measles exposure notice tied to DIA travel; Aurora Navigation Campus mold testing update; Children’s Colorado research milestone
Aurora, CO – March 2, 2026 – CDPHE flagged possible measles exposure tied to DIA travel; Aurora reports navigation campus areas tested safe for mold.
Measles exposure notice tied to DIA travel and a Littleton church
Colorado public health agencies issued a Feb. 24 notice warning of possible measles exposure connected to an out-of-state traveler who was infectious while moving through Denver International Airport and attending a church service in Littleton on Feb. 21–22.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) said the traveler arrived and later departed on Frontier flights, and that passengers who may have been exposed would be contacted by their state or local public health agency. CDPHE said the person was fully vaccinated, which lowers the risk of transmission, but does not eliminate it.
The notice listed specific airport areas and time windows and advised people who were in those locations to follow public health guidance, including calling ahead before visiting a clinic if symptoms develop.
Aurora Navigation Campus: city says occupied areas tested in normal range for airborne mold
A separate Aurora health concern centered on the Aurora Regional Navigation Campus at 15500 E. 40th Ave., which serves hundreds of people nightly during cold weather. In a Feb. 27 report, CBS Colorado said the city provided an inspection report after guests raised concerns about illness and potential mold.
According to the report described by CBS Colorado, air testing in occupied areas fell in a ‘green’ range for airborne mold concentrations consistent with normal building conditions. City officials told CBS Colorado that higher mold concentrations were found on upper floors that are not open to guests, and those areas will remain closed while mitigation work continues.
Children’s Colorado and CU Anschutz pediatrics research ranks No. 1 for NIH funding
On Feb. 25, Children’s Hospital Colorado announced that the University of Colorado Anschutz Department of Pediatrics ranked No. 1 nationally among comparable medical school-based pediatrics departments in National Institutes of Health funding for 2025. The announcement cited more than $63 million in NIH awards, based on data compiled by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.
The department is the academic partner of Children’s Colorado, and the release highlighted the role of research in advancing pediatric care through basic science, translational work, and clinical studies.
State update: executive order memorializes avian influenza disaster declaration
Also this week, Gov. Jared Polis signed a Feb. 26 executive order memorializing a verbal disaster declaration related to a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Weld County. The governor’s office said the action supports state coordination for monitoring, mitigation, response, and recovery activities.
