Sacramento, CA – March 3, 2026 – Measles cases in nearby Placer County, Covered California enrollment totals, and a new Shriners clinic planned in Folsom.

Sacramento-area residents are seeing several health-related developments that touch on outbreaks, coverage and access to specialty care.

Outbreak watch: Measles cases reported next door in Placer County

Placer County Public Health reported three confirmed measles cases and a fourth suspected case on March 2. Officials said the cases involve teenagers in a single household and appear linked to an extended family member who recently traveled to South Carolina, where a large outbreak has been reported.

Placer County said the teens are recovering, and officials stated they believe there were no school exposures and no public exposure risk tied to the cluster. The county also said the vaccination statuses of the cases were not confirmed at the time of the update.

Nationally, measles activity has increased in 2026. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,136 confirmed cases in the U.S. as of February 26.

Health insurance: Covered California reports end-of-enrollment totals

Covered California, the state’s health insurance marketplace headquartered in Sacramento, announced Feb. 26 that 1,927,371 Californians selected or renewed marketplace coverage during the 2026 open-enrollment period. The agency reported 235,055 new plan selections and nearly 1.7 million renewals.

The marketplace said the end of enhanced federal premium tax credits changed affordability for some households, while state-funded assistance helped certain lower-income enrollees. Covered California reported 389,590 people enrolled in plans receiving state subsidies, averaging $45 per month in 2026. Regionally, the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley area was reported at 205,610 enrollees.

Local access: Shriners Children’s plans new Folsom clinic

Shriners Children’s Northern California reported an expansion into Folsom with a new clinic intended to bring pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine services closer to families in eastern Sacramento County and nearby foothill communities. The clinic is located at 1625 Creekside Drive, Suite 200, in Folsom.

According to the announcement, the site is the hospital’s first off-campus extension clinic outside the main Sacramento campus. The first patient date was listed as March 19, and the clinic is expected to operate two days a week on Mondays and Thursdays.
