San Jose, CA – March 3, 2026 – Santa Clara County confirmed a measles case, Covered California closed open enrollment, and SJ Water brought a new tank online.

Measles case confirmed in Santa Clara County resident

Santa Clara County Public Health confirmed a measles case in an adult county resident who recently returned from international travel. The individual was vaccinated and is isolating at home, according to the county.

Officials said the person visited work and health care locations while infectious and also ate at a Panda Express in Burlingame on Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Santa Clara and San Mateo county health departments said they are working with state and local partners to identify and contact people who may have been exposed.

The county noted that measles symptoms commonly include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash, and may appear seven to 21 days after exposure. The county also described measles as highly contagious and airborne.

Health insurance: Covered California closes 2026 open enrollment

Covered California said the 2026 open-enrollment period ended with 1,927,371 Californians selecting or renewing plans. The marketplace reported 235,055 new plan selections and 1,692,316 renewals, with overall enrollment remaining near a record high even as enhanced federal premium tax credits expired.

The agency said California set aside $190 million in 2026 for state-funded premium assistance for lower-income enrollees, and it reported that new enrollment fell compared with last year while renewal cancellations rose among people who lost enhanced federal help. Covered California also reported that about 391,680 enrollees live in the Greater Bay Area.

Covered California said people who missed open enrollment may still qualify to sign up after certain major life events through special enrollment.

Local infrastructure with public health implications: new water storage tank online

San Jose Water announced it has placed the first of two planned 8-million-gallon water storage tanks into service at its Cambrian Station, following approval from the State of California Division of Drinking Water. The company said the second tank is under construction and planned for completion in 2027, which would bring the site to 16 million gallons of modern, seismically resilient storage.

San Jose Water said the new tanks are replacing two older reservoirs built in 1890 and 1921 and are intended to support reliable water service for about 225,000 customers.
