Henry Ford Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan announced Feb. 27 that they finalized a new partnership agreement focused on affordability and what the organizations describe as high-value care. The announcement said the model includes a value-based reimbursement component intended to tie payment more closely to quality and accountability.
Henry Ford and Blue Cross also said the partnership establishes shared outcome metrics across Blue Cross commercial and Medicare Advantage plans, with attention to patient experience and care coordination. The agreement also cites joint work aimed at addressing rising pharmaceutical and gene therapy costs.
Blue Cross reports improved 2025 financial performance, while cost pressures continue
In a March 2 release, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan reported significantly improved financial performance in 2025 compared with 2024, while noting that medical and prescription-drug claims expenses continue to climb. The Detroit-based nonprofit insurer said the improved results reflected internal changes, including $420 million in administrative cost reductions, along with pricing actions.
Community public health: HIV awareness summit and prevention programming
The Detroit Health Department’s Ending the HIV Epidemic Program hosted the 2026 Detroit Black HIV Awareness Summit on Friday, Feb. 27. The city’s event listing described the summit as an effort to highlight the impact of HIV on Detroiters and reinforce the need for education, unity, and equitable access to care and services. The listing also noted childcare and transportation support for attendees.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church hosted a free double summit focused on men’s substance-misuse prevention and youth and teen mental health. Organizers said the programming included mental health education, substance-misuse prevention training, wellness screenings, and activities such as yoga and acupuncture, along with meals and other supports.
Health insurance and bills: medical-debt safeguards highlighted in Lansing
In Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s final State of the State address, she outlined proposals aimed at limiting the impact of medical debt for Michigan residents. A Bridge Michigan recap reported the proposals included capping interest rates on medical debt, keeping medical debt off credit reports, banning liens or foreclosures on homes tied to medical debt, and requiring hospitals to establish financial assistance programs.
