Arlington, TX – March 4, 2026 – Free kidney and breast cancer screenings are planned March 14, with mobile mammograms and a Texas measles update.
Free kidney and breast cancer screenings planned in Arlington
Tarrant County Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons and partner organizations are planning a free community health event in Arlington later this month. The 3rd Annual Kidney Wellness and Health Expo is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse, 700 E. Abram St., according to a county news release.
The release lists partners that include the National Kidney Foundation Serving Texas, UT Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Institute, Tarrant County Public Health, and the Mid-Cities (Texas) Chapter of The Links, Inc. It says the event will offer free kidney disease and breast cancer screenings, low-cost flu shots for adults and children, free preventive health education, and a community resource fair. The release also mentions kidney-healthy food samples, health education sessions, a KidsZone for families, and complimentary lunch.
Mobile mammogram unit lists Arlington public-access dates in March
Texas Health Resources’ Mobile Health – Wellness for Life program has posted a list of public-access screening mammogram dates across North Texas, including Arlington stops at Canales Furniture, 2002 E. Abram St. The published schedule shows an Arlington date on March 10, following an earlier March 3 visit at the same address.
The schedule page says appointments can be made by phone and notes that walk-ins are also welcome.
Outbreak watch: measles reported at an El Paso-area detention facility
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that a large immigration detention camp on the Fort Bliss base in El Paso has been closed to visitors and attorneys due to a measles outbreak. The report said there were 14 active measles cases at the facility and that 112 people were being isolated, with the closure expected to last until around March 19 or March 20.
The AP report described measles as an easily preventable disease and noted that measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, while also referencing recent measles activity in Texas.
