MetroHealth reports 2025 operating gain amid continued safety-net pressure

MetroHealth, the region’s public safety-net system, reported a positive operating result for 2025 in an update to trustees described in a late-February report. The same report said leaders emphasized the improvement as a stabilization step following a prior-year operating loss, rather than a signal that financial pressures have eased.

According to the report, MetroHealth leaders linked the improved 2025 performance to multiple factors, including stronger pharmacy-related revenue and the impact of nonrecurring items. The report also noted MetroHealth’s ongoing challenge of uncompensated and charity care, described as remaining a significant strain for the system.

The announcement specifically cited the Greater Cleveland Food Bank among the Northeast Ohio beneficiaries. Cleveland Clinic framed the commitment as part of broader work to address food insecurity as a community health issue.

Cleveland Clinic ranked No. 3 in the world by Newsweek

In a separate update, Cleveland Clinic said Newsweek ranked it the No. 3 hospital in the world in the publication’s ‘World’s Best Hospitals 2026’ list. The health system also noted that multiple Cleveland Clinic-affiliated hospitals appeared in Newsweek’s U.S. hospital rankings.

The Clinic said Newsweek’s methodology includes inputs such as expert recommendations, hospital quality metrics, and patient experience data.
