Asda handbag recall expands to eight models over chemical risk
Five more George handbag models were added to Asda’s recall, bringing the total to eight. Owners should stop using them and return them for a full refund.
Asda’s recall of George ladies’ handbags has expanded from three models to eight, with five additional models added on October 6. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) first published the recall notice on September 2, 2026.
OPSS classifies the risk as serious because the handbags contain excessive concentrations of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, or DEHP. The notice says phthalates may harm children’s health, possibly damaging the reproductive system, and says the products do not meet REACH Regulations 2008 requirements.
The affected models are Nylon Backpack – Black (1100260030), Charm Hobo Workbag – Black (1100264700), Opp Crossbody Bag – Black (1100242685), Opp Tote – Black (1100242000), Front Pocket Xbody Bag – Black (1100258937), Opp Tote Bag – Black (1100260834), Nylon Phone Bag – Black (1100258939) and Front Pocket Xbody Bag – Tan (1100265415).
Anyone with one of the listed bags should stop using it immediately and return it to any Asda store for a full refund. Asda’s contact number is 0330 053 0111.
