Hidden Hills Family Dentistry is a dental practice committed to advancing knowledge of dental practice and ways to improve it. The practice is part of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN), a consortium of participating practices and dental organizations that conduct research in working dental offices, with real-life patients, on topics relevant to clinical practice. The PBRN fosters investigative partnerships between academic clinical scientists and practicing clinicians to address questions of everyday relevance to dental practitioners.
The National Dental PBRN is funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). The network has two pathways for proposing studies that utilize the National Dental PBRN infrastructure: large observational studies and clinical trials, and small developmental/exploratory, feasibility (pilot), and/or survey studies.
Research conducted within the National Dental PBRN has been supported by NIDCR since 2019, with the third cycle of support running from 2019-2026. The network offers research training opportunities for dental students under NIDCR-funded mentors and for dental students pursuing advanced training. Postgraduate dentists and residents may be eligible for administrative supplement support for research experiences.
By participating in the National Dental PBRN, dental practices like Hidden Hills Family Dentistry can contribute to the advancement of dental practice and improve patient care through evidence-based treatments.
