Riordan High TB Investigation Continues as Students Return; SF Advances Sobering Center and Insurance Updates

City health officials have reported three confirmed active tuberculosis cases connected to the school, along with three additional suspected active cases. More than 200 latent TB infections have been identified through expanded testing of students, faculty and staff.
Officials have emphasized that latent TB is not contagious but requires medical follow-up to reduce the risk of developing active disease. According to local reporting, individuals with confirmed or suspected active TB are receiving treatment, and there were no contagious cases on campus at the time students returned to classrooms.
The San Francisco Department of Public Health has described the overall risk to the general public as low, with the investigation concentrated within the school community.
RESET sobering center contract moves ahead
Separately, San Francisco is preparing to open the RESET Center, a 25-bed sobering facility in the South of Market area designed as an alternative to jail for people arrested for public intoxication or drug use.
The city approved a 26-month contract with Connections Health Solutions to operate the site at 444 Sixth St. The agreement ties payments to performance measures such as police drop-off times and the percentage of clients connected to services when they leave the facility.
City leaders have described the program as part of a broader effort to link people in crisis to stabilization and recovery services while reducing strain on emergency rooms and the jail system. The center is expected to open in April.
Covered California closes 2026 enrollment
Covered California reported that open enrollment for 2026 ended with nearly 1.93 million people statewide selecting or renewing coverage. The agency cited strong renewals but fewer new sign-ups compared with last year, following the expiration of enhanced federal premium subsidies.
About one in five enrollees lives in the Greater Bay Area, according to the marketplace. Residents who missed the open enrollment deadline may still qualify for coverage if they experience certain life events. People enrolled in Medi-Cal managed care in San Francisco can seek renewal and coverage assistance through local resources such as San Francisco Health Plan.
