An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the treatment of eye diseases and disorders. They are trained in both the surgical and medical aspects of eye care and can perform eye exams, diagnose and treat eye diseases and disorders, and prescribe medications or other therapies for their patients. Ophthalmologists are able to perform surgical procedures, such as cataract and glaucoma surgery, and can also diagnose and treat more serious eye conditions like eye cancer or traumatic eye injuries.
