Local health officials say influenza cases in Pima County have climbed above recent seasonal averages this respiratory season, with more than 2,700 confirmed infections reported so far. Tucson Spotlight also reported rising emergency room visits and noted that school-age children have been among the most affected groups locally.
The same report cited statewide totals above 20,000 cases and referenced federal monitoring that has characterized this season as moderate in severity. The agency said a new Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) translator was scheduled to go live March 1, describing it as a behind-the-scenes change intended to make data exchange faster and more efficient with trading partners such as health plans and clearinghouses.
The update also described upcoming system work aimed at expanded reporting tools and clearer communication around fee-for-service claim denial reasons for providers.

Arizona Complete Health published a Feb. 26 notice describing AHCCCS-related formulary updates effective April 1, 2026, tied to recommendations from the AHCCCS Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. The plan directed clinicians to review preferred drug lists for updated coverage status and alternatives as changes take effect.
Hospitalization reported after bee swarm attack in Pima County
In a separate public-safety and healthcare update, KOLD reported that one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition following a bee swarm attack in Pima County. The Santa Rita Fire District said crews responded near Interstate 19 and Esperanza Boulevard, where the victim was located in the northeast parking area of Green Valley Village.
