Fresno health update: Blue Shield privacy notice, new burn rehab space, and added residency positions at Community Regional

Blue Shield issues privacy notice tied to vendor cyber incident
Blue Shield of California says it is notifying members about a potential privacy breach connected to a cyber incident involving its vendor, Conduent Business Services. Blue Shield reports that Conduent determined an unauthorized third party accessed its environment between Oct. 21, 2024 and Jan. 13, 2025 and obtained some files associated with Blue Shield.
According to Blue Shield, information that may have been involved can include member names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, and medical service information such as provider names, dates of service and claim amounts, plus group and subscriber identifiers. Blue Shield says the incident did not involve driver’s license numbers or banking/credit card information. The insurer says it is offering one year of Experian IdentityWorks and has published contact information for members with questions.
Community Regional adds federally funded residency positions
Community Health System announced that Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno will host seven additional UCSF Fresno medical residency positions supported by newly approved federal funding. The health system says the added slots are part of a national expansion of Medicare-supported graduate medical education positions distributed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The announcement describes the move as a workforce investment intended to strengthen physician training and retention in the San Joaquin Valley. The new positions are expected to be filled gradually over the next few years.
New burn therapy gym opens inside the Leon S. Peters Burn Center
Community Regional Medical Center has opened a new Burn Therapy Gym inside its Leon S. Peters Burn Center, according to ABC30. Clinicians told the station the dedicated space is designed to support burn recovery with specialized therapy equipment.
The report also highlights an infection-control and patient-safety benefit: keeping burn therapy in a dedicated area can reduce the need to move patients through other parts of the hospital during a vulnerable phase of healing. ABC30 reports the gym project was supported by a donation from the Lemoore Volunteer Fire Department and notes Community Regional is the only comprehensive burn center between Sacramento and Los Angeles.
