El Paso health update: Measles exposures listed; regional prevention grants announced
El Paso, TX – March 2, 2026 – Measles case count reaches 17 in El Paso County; city lists exposure sites and vaccine clinics; new regional health grants.
Measles: 17 cases reported in El Paso County; exposure locations posted
El Paso public health officials reported 17 measles cases tied to the area, including four confirmed within the City of El Paso and 13 additional cases reported through federal authorities at the East Montana federal facility (Camp East Montana), which is outside city jurisdiction. The city said it is coordinating with federal partners and has provided testing support and vaccine supply when requested.
In a Feb. 26 public notice, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health listed potential public exposure locations visited Feb. 20–22, including the Apple Store at Cielo Vista Mall, Del Sol Medical Center, the Outlet Mall, a Target in the Bassett area, and several restaurants. The department said public health staff have initiated contact tracing and urged residents to follow public health guidance related to exposures.
The city also announced expanded access to walk-in immunization services on weekdays at its Lower Valley, Henderson, Northeast, and Westside community clinics, along with a measles hotline for questions.
Healthcare and prevention: Paso del Norte Health Foundation awards more than $557,000
Paso del Norte Health Foundation announced $557,902.83 in grants supporting health work across the Borderplex. According to the foundation’s grant announcement shared by KVIA, awards span health leadership, disease prevention and management, and healthy living.
Examples cited in the report include funding for United Way of El Paso County, BorderRAC, and other partners, along with prevention-focused efforts tied to vaping and tobacco education.
Mental health resources: United Way highlights Center for Resiliency programming
United Way of El Paso County also recently highlighted the Center for Resiliency and its programming focused on community resources related to mental health, stress, and resiliency. KVIA reported the center offers ongoing monthly and special events, as well as services for those who register, with additional information available through United Way’s website.
