Placing a dental bridge typically requires two or more appointments with a dental professional. During the first appointment, the adjacent teeth that will support the bridge are prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crowns that will hold the pontic(s) in place. An impression of the teeth is then taken and sent to a dental lab to create the custom bridge. In the meantime, a temporary bridge will be placed to protect the prepared teeth. During the second appointment, the temporary bridge is removed and the custom bridge is checked for fit and bite. Once the fit is confirmed, the bridge is cemented in place.
