Milwaukee health watch: VA facility upgrades, Children’s Wisconsin campaign results, Froedtert security response, and a statewide measles update
Milwaukee, WI – February 27, 2026 – Milwaukee VA announced facility upgrades; Children’s Wisconsin reported $308M raised; measles update adds vigilance.
Milwaukee-area health headlines in the past week have centered on care access and readiness: investments in hospital infrastructure, major fundraising that supports pediatric services, and a brief security response at a regional hospital campus. Wisconsin public health officials also posted a fresh update on measles activity in the state.
Milwaukee VA announces infrastructure upgrades
The VA announced new facility improvement projects at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, describing them as part of broader fiscal year 2026 modernization work. The Milwaukee list includes renovation work for a Women’s Clinic, replacement of a mental health emergency generator and switchboard, steam tunnel repairs, upgrades tied to electronic health record modernization, replacement of operating room dumbwaiters, lightning protection installation, and safety corrections recommended by The Joint Commission. The release also cited MRI equipment upgrades as part of the package.
Children’s Wisconsin reports $308M raised in five-year campaign
Children’s Wisconsin reported it raised $308 million through its five-year Brighter Than Ever campaign, exceeding its fundraising goal. The health system said the campaign ran from 2020 through the end of 2025, with contributions from tens of thousands of donors. The update pointed to a range of uses for the campaign support, including work connected to pediatric research and precision medicine, mental and behavioral health initiatives, and expansion of services at the Milwaukee hospital, including its neonatal intensive care unit.
Froedtert Hospital investigated a suspicious package
On Feb. 24, Wauwatosa police responded to Froedtert Hospital for a suspicious package investigation. FOX6 reported the campus remained open, with patients, staff and visitors directed through an alternate entrance while the investigation was underway. Police said limited details were available at the time of reporting.
Outbreak update: measles case reported in Dane County
While not specific to Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services updated its outbreak page to reflect a confirmed measles case in Dane County. DHS said the case was linked to international travel, and that community exposure locations connected to it were expired, with no ongoing public health risk related to that case. The update also reiterated standard guidance on checking immunization records and contacting a health care provider before seeking in-person care if symptoms develop.
